Tauira have attended weekly Zui to hear various Māori Housing experts share and discuss their journeys of the following:

 

Wayne Knox, General Manager, provided an Overview of the role and mahi of Te Matapihi He Tirohanga Mo Te Iwi Trust and touched on some key policy initiatives currently in place to support Māori-led housing.  

Jen Deben is a housing advocate specializing in public housing and progressive home ownership She provided some great advice for those Iwi and Hapū who’d like to become CHP’s (Community Housing Providers)

Barbara Browne, Tumu Whakarae, Kahui Tu Kaha spoke about Strategic Leadership “ By taking the steps to embody these qualities you are already becoming a better leader and can help move your team toward success!”

Rau Hoskins, Director, Designtribe; discussed the evolution of Māori housing typologies from our original Kāinga to a range of current options being developed to support whānau to live well in urban settings.

Jim Jessep is the General Manager of Ka Uruora, a collective Iwi organisation delivering affordable Kāinga and supporting services/support to assist Iwi members in improving financial independence.  

These have all been informative sessions for our tauira and could potentially help them with their own real-life project.

FAQ’s

  • Mana Kāinga is the first ever Māori Housing Leadership Programme and is administered by Te Matapihi he Tirohanga mō te Iwi Trust (Te Matapihi), as the national peak body for Māori housing.


    Mana Kāinga was established due to the urgent need to grow the capability and capacity within the Māori housing sector and intends to support emerging Māori housing leaders to navigate the complexities of creating thriving kāinga.

  • Mana Kāinga will be delivered via in-person wānanga in various rohe throughout the motu, as well as via wānanga ipurangi (online learning).

  • Tauira will have the opportunity to engage with Māori Housing experts across the housing continuum and gain insights from leading exemplars across the motu.

    All tauira participating in our 15-week programme are required to bring a real-world Māori housing project and will develop these projects through wānanga alongside experts and fellow tauira. The kaupapa Māori programme will explore key issues across the housing continuum as they relate to the themes of whakapapa, whenua, whānau, wai and kai, whare, and whai rawa.
